WRITER LOOKING AT GI RESISTANCE

For a book I’m writing on the new GI resistance, I would like to hear about individuals or groups who challenge the U.S. military's presence or actions in Iraq. I'm looking for instances of all kind of resistance, such as: individuals refusing to fight or carry weapons, groups refusing or circumventing orders, soldiers going AWOL, “search and evade” missions, lawsuits, blogs or publications questioning military policies, art projects, speeches, and all the other ways GIs in-country and back in the States resist what they consider illegal, immoral, or useless actions.

I am a writer and college teacher in Boston, who reports on free speech and civil liberties. I wrote about conscientious objectors in the first Gulf War in my book, Outspoken: Free Speech Stories (info. at: www.nan-levinson.com) , and I’ve been following and reporting on military-related resistance to this Iraq war since before it began.

If you know of examples of resistance, please email me at:nanlevinson@comcast.net. I understand that this information may be sensitive, so I will be careful in how I use it. I will need to know its source, however, so that I can verify it, if necessary. Thank you.
